RED JACKET - Dikembe Dixson and Dalton Hatfield combined for 42 points, scoring 21 points each and Montrell Dixson added 15 points as Mingo Central got back on the winning track defeating Wesley Christian 69-60 Thursday night at the MCHS gym.

The Miners jumped out to a 21-10 first quarter lead and led 36-23 at the half.

Coach Brad Napier said his team came out with good intensity and was able to set the pace early in the game over the talented private school from Allen, Ky.

“We played 3 1/2 quarters of our best basketball this season,” Napier said of his squad. “We were good on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.”

Hatfield continued his torrid outside shooting, firing in five 3-pointers for Mingo Central. Four of those long shots came in the first half.

MCHS outscored Wesley 19-15 in the third quarter and held on to pick up the win down the stretch. The Miners were up by 22 points at one point in the quarter.

The Miners were 14-20 at the free throw line for 70 percent. MCHS shot 53 from the floor.

Stevie Hammond, a junior point guard, contributed six points, while KeShean Rhodes added four and Mallie May two to round out the scoring for MCHS.

Dikembe Dixson had seven reobounds, while Montrell Dixson had seven boards and six blocked shots. Hammond dished out eight assists and had three steals, while Rhodes handed out six assists.

The Miners, ranked No. 8 in Class AA, were scheduled to play No. 5 Class AAA Huntington High School on Saturday at the Big Sandy Arena.

Mingo Central will play host to Cardinal Conference opponent Herbert Hoover on Tuesday.
