Gilbert Elementary had a week long celebration of Dr. Seuss from Monday February 25 through Friday March 1 though the Doctor’s birthday was on March 2.
All week the Cat in The Hat, Thing One and Thing Two bounced around the school making kids laugh and terrorizing classrooms.
Each day the school had a different theme. Monday was Cat in the Hat Wear a hat day. Tuesday was Fox in Socks wear crazy socks day. Wednesday was Wacky Wednesday and children wore wacky clothes. Thursday was Inside Your Outside and children wore their clothes inside out. Friday was dress up like your favorite Dr. Seuss book day.
All the madness around the school was intended to inspire kids to enjoy reading. Parents and business owners from the community came it throughout the week and did readings of different Dr. Seuss books for the kids.
The Parent Teacher Organization bought Dr. Seuss bookmarks, pencils and erasers to give out to the kids. On Thursday the cooks even made green eggs and ham for the students at breakfast.
