WILLIAMSON — A Williamson woman remains in Southwestern Regional Jail after hitting a pedestrian with her car.

According to court documents, 21-year-old Brittney Wilkerson of Williamson was driving a 2001 Ford Taurus on Joseph Avenue in Williamson when she struck Wilbert Hatcher, who was attempting to get into his car, which was parked on the street. Hatcher received injuries to her back and neck.

Wilkerson did not stop after hitting Hatcher, according to the criminal complaint, until Williamson police officers stopped her at the bottom of Joseph Avenue. When stopped, Wilkerson appeared intoxicated. Police gave her a preliminary alcohol breath test, which registered .108.

After being transported to the Mingo County Sheriff’s Department, Wilkerson was re-tested and registered .109.

After running a check of her drivers license, it was discovered Wilkerson’s had been suspended numerous times for unpaid citations, the latest in August of last year.

Wilkerson was charged with D.U.I. causing injury and leaving the scene of an accident and was arraigned by Magistrate Dallas Toler, who set her bail at $4,500. Wilkerson remained in custody Tuesday.

The incident was investigated by WPD Sgt. J. Spence and Patrolman J. Marcum.
