Miners golden with win over Knights

MATEWAN — The Mingo Lady Miners tarnished the Golden Knights 57-24 on Feb. 2 at MCC.

The Lady Miners took control early outscoring Mount View 17-8 in the first quarter. Centrals defense was overpowering in the second quarter allowing the View to score only two point.

MCC went into the locker rooms at the break up 29-10.

Mingo continued its domination in the second half and held the Knights to three points in the third and 11 in the fourth.

Central outscored Mount View in every quarter except the fourth when head coach Don Taylor emptied his bench.

The Miners had three players in double figures. Danielle Butcher led the way with 16 while Danielle Browning and Ashley Curry netted 10 each.

The Golden Knights did not have a player reach double digits as Ashley Belfiore led her team with seven points.

Mingo sank 12 of 17 from the charity stripe while Mount View was only able to connect on 3-of-11.

Central improved to 8-11 on the season and will host Westside on Feb. 8 at 7 p.m.
