WILLIAMSON - The public will be given the opportunity to hear local and state politicians who are seeking election speak about why they feel they are the best candidate for the job, as well as partake in an old-fashioned country buffet breakfast that is planned for this weekend.

The Mingo County Democrat Women will be sponsoring a “Meet the Candidates” Breakfast this Saturday, April 21, at 9 a.m., on the second floor of the Williamson Fire Department.

Both county and state candidates will be present to speak with the public and present their political platform, including U.S. Rep. Nick Joe Rahall. Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin has also expressed interest in attending, and stated that if he should have a conflict in his schedule that would prevent him from being in Williamson, a representative of his office would hopefully attend on his behalf.

Supreme Court Judge candidates are also planning to speak, and the group has received confirmation from the majority of those seeking county positions, as well as those competing for the Mingo County Board of Education. Each speaker will be given a specific amount of time to address the crowd, and depending on the amount of speakers attending, a question and answer session may be held before the event concludes.

A good ole’ country breakfast will be catered by Food City, along with fresh fruit, donuts, and a variety of drinks. Tickets for the event ($12 per person) will be available at the door, or may be purchased in advance from club members. There will be items on display for a silent auction and door prizes will also be given away.

The Federation of Democrat Women was formed after women throughout America gained the right to vote. The goal and purpose of the members is to support all democrat candidates and the Democratic Party as a whole.

Pauletta Sue Dove, President of the Mingo Chapter of the Democratic Women, stated their members look forward to supporting local and state democratic candidates, and encourage everyone to make plans to attend this event.

“Step up and get involved,” the president said . “Let’s join together and support our candidates.”
