NAUGATUCK – Mingo Central made it a clean sweep over county rival Tug Valley on the baseball diamond with a 14-7 win at Naugatuck Tuesday night.
The Miners led 7-3 after two innings and the Panthers tried to claw back, but were unable to get over the hump.
Chris Atkins picked up the win on the mound for head coach Walt Cline, while Gabe Varney took the loss for Tug Valley. Garth Simpkins also saw action on the mound for MCHS. Zack Baize and White pitched in relief for TVHS.
Gabe Vinson had three hits to lead the hit parade for the Miners. Atkins also had a trio of hits and scored two runs to help his own cause. Austin Reed had a pair of hits including a triple and scored twice, the May brothers, John and Josh, each added two hits and scored two runs each. Josh May had three RBIs, while Reed had a pair of RBIs. Jacob Staton and Matt Lester also had hits for Mingo Central.
Chuckie White was the leading hitter in the game with four hits for Tug Valley including a double. White also had a couple of RBIs. Varney had a double and two RBIs for the Panthers. Several other TVHS players had hits including Tyler Lucas, Jordon Mounts, Aaron Muncy and Trevin Horn.
Mingo Central is scheduled to play host to Tolsia today. Tug Valley will play Sherman at home today and St. Joe on Friday, weather permitting.
