JUSTICE — Two persons are facing numerous charges after they led West Virginia State Police on a chase through two counties.
West Virginia State Police Sgt. J.C. Dotson said the chase began at Justice when Trooper J.R. Tupper clocked the suspect, Jamie Church, going approximately 79 m.p.h. and attempted to execute a traffic stop.
Church’s girlfriend, Crystal Holt, his 14-year-old daughter, his father and his father’s girlfriend were also in the vehicle.
During his attempt to elude police, Church left US 52, and when getting back on the highway struck a car with several passenger. He did not stop, however. Those passengers were not seriously injured.
Church drove on US 52 near Wyoming County, leaving the highway outside Justice, where he and Holt left the vehicle and fled on foot. The other passengers stayed with the vehicle.
At that point, Sgt. Dotson and deputies from Wyoming Counties arrived on scene to assist Tpr. Tupper, searching for Church and Holt on foot.
Gilbert’s Assistant Police Chief Nathan Glanden brought his K-9 to the scene, but the dog could not find the couple.
Church went to a friends house and told the friend that Holt was still in the creek. Church and the friend went to locate Holt, where they were spotted by officers. Church’s friend was apprehended at that point, but Church got away.
Dotson found Church hiding on some railroad tracks near his home, and arrested him. Dotson had Church call out to Holt, who answered and was located in the creek.
During the chase, Holt suffered a broken leg, and was pulled up from the creek in a basket by the Vanover Volunteer Fire Department.
It was discovered that Holt had been entered into the National Crime Information Center database as a missing person, which she denied. She also refused to give a statement to police.
Church and Holt will be arraigned in Wyoming County. The incident remains under investigation by West Virginia State Police.
