The first half of the ballgame was neck and neck with Gilbert 8 and Iaeger 7, but after half-time the Iaeger came back leaving the Lions scrambling for points.
In the fourth quarter the Lions made a comeback, scoring several touchdowns, but not in enough time to get the win. The final score of the game ended Iaeger 28, Gilbert 20.
“This was a good night of high school football,” said Mitchell Estepp, Iaeger’s Head Coach. “This game could have gone either way, Gilbert played extremely hard too, there was no lack of effort from either team.”
Coach Estepp contributed the win to good athletes, a dedicated coaching staff and support from the Cub’s fans.
Gilbert’s Head Coach Gordan Carter declined comment regarding Friday nights game.
This win could mean the Cubs are headed to the play-offs, “This win could make the opportunity realistic, and this will be the first time since 2003 that Iaeger has made it.”
This is the last year for Cubs football, next year they will consolidate with the Big Creek High School Owls to form the River View Raiders.
Next week the Cubs will go up against their future allies the Owls at Iaeger. The Lions will go up against the Bulldogs at Burch.
