The Man Hillbillies tamed the Gilbert Lions Friday night with a final score of 48-12.
The Lions only made two touchdowns for the night, one before half-time, when Gilbert High Senior Cody Houck returned a kick-off to the end zone and another by Branºdon Cline in the fourth quarter.
Gilbert Head Coach Gordon Carter said that size of the Hillbillies was too much for his team.
“They were too big for us,” said Carter. “They have a good football team.”
“Offensively we weren’t able to move the ball,” he added. “Defensively we did pretty well, but they got good plays.”
The Lions next game against Matewan is vital if they want a chance at play-offs, Coach Carter said his boys will be preparing all week for this upcoming match.
“On Monday we are going to check the health of our team,” Carter said last Friday. “Pretty much everything depends on this next game, we are going to have to beat Matewan and that is no easy task for anyone.”
“Matewan is one of those teams you have to be prepared for, running attacks, short passes and lot of screens, so we will be working hard.”
Gilbert will go up against the Matewan Tigers at Matewan.
