Chafin announces more than $150K in funding for Mingo Co.

Mingo County will receive over $156,000 for various needs throughout the county according to a press release issued by Senate Majority Leader H. Truman Chafin Thursday.

"Improving our parks, playgrounds and infrastructure including sidewalks and other projects is an investment in our future and I am always pleased to continue the fight for these dollars when they are available," said Chafin in the press release.

Below is an itemized list of the money received and how it will be used:

• $100,000 for Delbarton and the Mountaineer Development Corporation for the town's renovation.

• $20,000 to upgrade sewer and water treatment plants.

• $5,000 to Mingo County for security systems.

• $5,000 for the city of Williamson to continue repair of streets and sidewalks.

• $5,000 for the Ben Creek Creek Park.

• $5,000 for the Red Jacket Little League.

• $5,000 for the Delbarton Opry House.

• $4,000 for the town of Kermit for streets and sidewalk renovations.

• $3,000 for Southern West Virginia Action for Youth.

• $3,000 for Beech Creek.

• $1,000 for the Save our Strays animal rescue shelter.

Several grants were also received grant money for other counties in his district, including McDowell, Wyoming, and Mercer Counties.
